Pictures from Raspberry Pi's new camera add-on

At first sight, it must be just about the most useless camera you can possibly imagine. To take a picture you have to somehow hold it in one hand while typing a line of code with another and pressing return.

The camera, which I've been testing for a couple of days, is all of a piece with the Raspberry Pi aesthetic - a tiny lens on a chip smaller than a postage stamp. The accessory, released today, is like the Pi itself in that it makes few concessions to modern expectations of consumer products that you plug 'n' play.

Source / Article: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-22508667

On closer inspection, it seems Syria has largely disappeared from the Internet.

The graph on top shows DNS traffic from and to Syria. The drop in both inbound and outbound traffic from Syria is clearly visible. The small amount of outbound traffic depicted by the chart indicates our DNS servers trying to reach DNS servers in Syria.

Source / Article: http://labs.umbrella.com/2013/05/07/breaking-news-traffic-from-syria-disappears-from-internet/

Internet proxies no longer effective in Iran

Reports from Iran indicate that proxies are no longer effective for Iranian internet users to circumvent web censorship.

Reports from Iran indicate that proxies are no longer effective for Iranian internet users to circumvent web censorship.

ITIran reports that the Siphon proxy as well as Kerio and open VPN are no longer effective against the Iranian state’s efforts to block websites. The report also adds that internet speed has fallen sharply, restricting user access to most sites.

The spokesman for the Association of Computer Systems announced that Iran will soon cut itself off from the worldwide web.

Payam Karbasi has reportedly told the Roozegar daily: “The National Internet (Intranet) will soon be launched in Iran, which means Iran will cut itself off from the World Wide Web.”

Others have suggested that the internet interference may be connected to the lead up to the presidential elections in June.

Source / Article: http://archive.radiozamaneh.com/english/content/internet-proxies-no-longer-effective-iran
Forum posts: 1 | 2

File-Sharing Forum Admin Jailed For Six Months

Following an initial investigation four years ago, a case against a file-sharing forum admin has just concluded with fines and a six month jail sentence.

Following an initial investigation four years ago, a case against a file-sharing forum admin has just concluded with fines and a six month jail sentence.

In 2009, French anti-piracy group ALPA launched an investigation into Infernio Advitam, a 10,000 member file-sharing focused forum.

ALPA later filed a complaint with the police after discovering the site was making available more than 1,500 movies without permission.

According to a Numerama report, that case has now reached its conclusion with the Criminal Court of Caen handing down a six month jail sentence to the site’s operator.

In addition the admin will have to pay 8,000 euros in fines but damages, likely to be substantial, are yet to be agreed.

ALPA say the admin made around 25,000 euros from donations but the plaintiffs in the case – Fox, Columbia, Disney, Paramount, Universal Studios and Tristar – will expect much more.

Source / Article: http://torrentfreak.com/file-sharing-forum-admin-jailed-for-six-months-130507/
